Taco Restaurant #2 - Tortilla Marissa's on College Ave.
The food: An order of "street tacos" (2 carnitas and 2 chicken on soft corn tortillas)
ChrisW: These tacos really hit the spot. The tortillas were slightly fried, which is always earns extra points from me. The majority of the tacos were the meat with a bit of pico, onion, lime and some guacamole to slather on. I really enjoyed the carnitas tacos as they were juicy and had some spicy kick to them. I found the chicken tacos to be a little bit dry and less tasty, but my taco companions John and ChrisM found the chicken tacos preferable. I would score the carnitas tacos 9/10 and the chicken tacos 6/10.
The location: We sat in flimsy plastic chairs in the patio out back, which was shielded remarkably well from the traffic sounds of College Ave. A bit of mariachi music was played and there were cute paintings of cacti across the walls of the patio. It was not fancy, but it was pleasant. The wait staff was very friendly.
ChrisW overall rating: 8/10
ChrisM: These ta-ta-tacos were tasty. They were called the "street tacos" on the menu but I am pretty sure they were made in the kitchen and they did not use road kill meat. As the picture that Weller took shows, there were two chicken tacos and two pig tacos. I preferred the chicken but the pig was tasty too. They were light and fresh - not too fried or greasy which was nice. While the pig was really juicy, the chicken was almost too dry, but the sides complimented them nicely and the overall spice was perfect.
ReplyDeleteI scored the piggy tacos at 8/10 and the chicken at 9/10.
The location: Wellers description was spot on. For being near College Ave during lunch hour, it was pretty quite and felt secluded...
ChrisM overall rating: 8/10
JohnT: I did prefer the chicken taco to the pork, however I agree that the chicken was a bit dry. The chicken wasn't cubed, or shredded, more like something in the middle of those two. The pork was shredded and in a sauce that had a bit more heat than the chicken. The plate comes with fresh cabbage and guacamole on the side. The quac was tasty and very smooth with few chunks, this helped the dry chicken immensely. The tortillas were flavorful, and not dry. Overall, I would order both of these tacos again.
ReplyDeleteChicken 7/10
Pork 6/10
While on our tour of Fort Collins taco providers, I will review chips and salsa when provided, in my section henceforth referred to as "Tostados y Salsa"
Tostados y Salsa:
The chips are pretty run of the mill, served at room temperature and include both yellow and red varieties. The salsa was mild, chunky, and served warm.
Chips 4/10
Salsa 6/10
